Vishal and Rohini

A big hello from Vishi and Roh!!! We are so happy and excited that you are interested in knowing more about us! Be rest assured that you won’t be let down, we have lots and lots to say.

By the end of this page, you’ll probably know us really well. So let’s make it official (and more organic in the present day scenario) and connect on social media – I mean where else can you laugh better with (or at :p) us on our travel (mis)adventures?

So, Who are we?

We are Vishal and Rohini (yeah, that’s how you expand Vishi and Roh), a doctor couple from Kerala, India, currently pursuing our medical specialisations in Germany. And that led us to being currently placed in the fairytale – like, half timbered houses filled state of Bayern in south Germany, as one of us (Roh) learns to operate and remove that painful Appendix while the other (Vishi) is almost done learning to perfection the art of making any surgery completely painless and bearable. Yeah, even our specialties are as compatible as our personalities – talk of soulmates?

What’s Our Story?

Well like most real life versions of a fairytale, we met in college and like in every Indian movie, the starry eyed freshman (Roh) fell for the popular, handsome senior with the sarcastic smirk (Vishi) – quickly, before any of you wonder, Vishi made the first move :p

After what was definitely a no easy journey (that included some years of LDR) of 5 years, we got married. And hence began our adventure in a foreign country, trying to hone our professional skills.

Travelling together was a dream we shared right from the time we were “just friends”; a dream that, now with financial independence, we decided to turn into reality.

“ A rebel with a caring heart “ is how I would best describe myself. I was never one to conform to the  norms and expectations of the society on what’s acceptable and what’s not. I despise these stereotypes as much as I love mismatched shoes and rainbow coloured cardigans (both of which you will see a lot in our photos featuring me :p). Being true to myself and going that extra mile to live the life I always dreamt of, was possibly the best gift I gave myself and that includes my marriage to Vishi.

The idea of helping people in need and those in suffering had always intrigued me, so much so that I actually busted my ass into medical school and all through it. Yet, something that stayed alive was the side to me that loved adventure, the risk taking and these very predictably drew me to surgery ( that and the fact that I had amazing and inspiring professors).

I have always been a wanderer (a trait I presumably inherited from my father ), longing for new places, new experiences and moments that seem to last forever. This is what travelling gives me. It’s the water to my thirst for the unknown, the happiness that follows words that flow so effortlessly to my pen tip as I scribble what I feel describes each travel best.

I am a hopeless romantic and a Disney fanatic who knows every Disney movie and song ever made; hence you will easily find me drawn to cobble stones streets and enchanted forests as easily as to the nearest H&M store :p

Nothing describes me better than the phrase “happy go lucky”. I find it easier to be carefree and live one day at a time. It’s also the same principle I apply to all my problems and even work. It’s impossible to have solutions to everything, but what’s important is that you give your best shot in solving them.

After what was major deliberation between wanting to fly and saving lives, I chose the latter and landed myself in med school. That’s where I met Roh, so honestly can’t complain about that decision!! Yet I wanted that flexibility this profession doesn’t offer in most places, the flexibility to pursue my dreams and live my life, even as I dedicated a huge fraction of my life to helping people. That’s also the reason I chose Germany when the opportunity presented itself, inspite of the difficulty of learning a completely new language.

I believe that capturing moments on frame is as important as living them. Atleast that’s the only way you can ensure they live on, even after your brain turns fickle and old. Hence my love for photography. It excites me to find the best angles that encompasses everything in a moment : the emotions, the backdrop, the colours and everything in between.

Nothing cheers me up better than a good Marvel rerun munching one authentic Indian cuisine on a bad day. Oh, and did I mention that once I cozy into my couch, there is no coming out? Yeah, doing it as I finish writing this LOL!

Why this Blog?

Disclaimer alert : We are not bloggers by profession.

We decided to start this page solely as a hobby (okay we admit that “self amusement” is the primary motive here). As we described in detail above, we love to tell our stories, be that through writing or pictures, and that’s what we aim to do with this platform.

We are people who travel during our free time – that means we are packing our bags at the farthest glimpse of a free weekend or a holiday. But we guess, that makes us very much like the majority of  people in this world, for whom travelling is not the primary occupation. And this in turn leads to our vacations being short and quite precise.

As we planned more and more trips, we realised planning short trips is the most difficult thing there is. How in the world can a person explore big and beautiful cities over a weekend or a span on 3-4 days? (unless say, you want to equal a city like London to the Chain bridge and the London Eye! )Travelling is for the both of us, finding the quirks of a place. What makes it special? What that one thing that’s only found there but nowhere else in the world? And incorporating time for such discoveries into a short vacation, that also includes major attractions and the most popular Instagram spots is crazy difficult (that’s right! NOT IMPOSSIBLE!!)

So every travel we plan includes insane hours of research until we make sure we have an itinerary, where we are missing the least. And then we thought, why not share this with all of you who might be planning short trips to these places, yet don’t have enough time for all that extensive research? Why not make a one stop hub for all the research you need before you make your short trip? And hence this blog!

We called it Compass Misrouted because, like we said before, we don’t believe that the best travel experiences end at admiring just the crowded popular tourist attractions. They are in the nooks and crannies that didn’t make it to the brochure, and wait to be uncovered.

Why should you stick around?

For anyone of you wondering how we are different from the other blogger you follow on Instagram or that other blog you read yesterday, here’s our answer.

1.Everything we curate here is done by the two of us based on our own trips and experiences. We aren’t a travel website that tries to write about everywhere for everyone – afterall, we hardly get time to travel, let alone blog about it ; but that means you can really trust what we write and recommend in our stories, since we really battled to make time to do this! All the photos you’ll see on the blog are taken by us as well (Vishi will have it no other way!)

2.We are not here inspiring everyone to quit their jobs to travel or make anyone believe that’s the only way to travel “properly” at all, and we’re not going to sell you a course about how to do it. Instead, we just want to help you to be able to make the most of your own travel experiences and inspire you into believing that small vacations or weekends can indeed give you amazing travel experiences.

To Our Readers

We are not full time bloggers, we are professionals who just love sharing our stories.

But all that said and done, Our Blog is our biggest passion, the baby we are bringing up investing a lot of time and effort. There are a lot of evenings we spend holed up in our den, in front of our laptops until late at night doing research, writing, photo editing, video cutting, answering e-mails (after having our hands covered in a fair share of blood and paperwork all day!)…

We do this because we want to share our stories with YOU. We want to show you, what we experience and what we did to make the best of our little time. Because that’s the best thing about travelling: being able to share the experiences.

We’re neither millionaires nor do we want to rob a bank (ever). But we want to continue to follow our passion. That’s why we are happy when anyone decides to support us!
